Matthias Braschler (*1969, CH) and Monika Fischer (*1971, CH)
Critically acclaimed portrait photographers Mathias Braschler and Monika Fischer began collaborating in 2003 on the occasion of their "About Americans" project.
Since then they have specialized in elaborate projects documenting people from all backgrounds and cultures. Major projects include "Faces of Football", a series of portraits of the world’s most important soccer players; "China", portraits of people from all social backgrounds and regions of China; and "The Human Face of Climate Change", a series of environmental portraits of people from around the world affected by climate change. One of their more recent projects "Act Now!" a portrait series of famous climate activists, was a collaboration between Braschler & Fischer, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
They have traversed the globe many times in search of their subjects and it has brought them to such remote locations as the island state of Kiribati or Tuktoyaktuk in the far North of Canada. The range of people the Swiss duo has captured ranges from celebrities such as David Beckham to nomadic farmers in the Sahel Zone.
Braschler & Fischer have won numerous awards for their image making, including a World Press Photo Award. Their photography projects have appeared in countless international magazines, been published as photo books, and have been exhibited in galleries and museums in Europe, Asia, and the United States.
Today Mathias Braschler and Monika Fischer live and work between Zurich and New York.
