17:30 – 18:00 H
Bildhalle Hazenstraat Amsterdam will host three guided tours led by Bibian van der Vis of the solo exhibition “Playing with the Light of the Universe” by Albarrán Cabrera.
The world-renowned Spanish artistic duo Angel Albarrán and Anna Cabrera investigates reality with a photographic medium and discovered that by using photography they can have a better understanding not only of the perceived reality, but also of the ‘why of things’. They found it to be the perfect philosophical tool to learn more about the universe as a logical and architectural conception.
The world around us is full of light, beauty and magical moments. Photography that discovers and captures these moments has the power to touch and move the viewer. With their subtle imagery and unique print techniques, the two artists create poetic works of art that bear witness to a deep awareness of the soulfulness of nature.
“Our aim is to play with the viewers’ memories and to construct a representation inside their minds. We are not interested in evoking a specific feeling, but in creating prints that trigger different feelings in different viewers”
The photographic series of Albarrán Cabrera are based on philosophical concepts, ancient myths, religions and romantic poems, for instance their most extensive body of work “The Mouth of Krishna”, which is featured predominantly in this exhibition. According to Hindu belief, infant Krishna is accused of eating dirt when his mother scolds him and orders him to open his mouth. Krishna does as he is told and, in his mouth, the whole complete entire timeless universe, all the stars and planets, all the lands and seas of the earth and the life in them is seen. In addition, the title of the solo exhibition “Every day you play with the light of the universe” is based on a love poem with the same title by Pablo Neruda, which describes an all-consuming love using natural based metaphors.
We hope to welcome you with good food and drinks, inspired by the same Mediterranean and Japanese cultural themes found in the series of the Spanish artists. Enjoy spring in Amsterdam surrounded by these romantic and highly poetic artworks and feel challenged to play with your memories and imagination by Albarrán Cabrera.
We kindly ask you to confirm your attendance for one or for both of the events by writing an e-mail to info@bildhalle.nl before 9 May 2022.
