ART SALON ZÜRICH 2025
At this year's Art Salon Zurich, Bildhalle Gallery will honour the work of Swiss photographer René Groebli with a solo show featuring some of his most celebrated black and white pieces as well as some of his then experimental colorwork.
René Groebli, born 1927 in Zurich, is known internationally for his dynamic, daring and then avantgardist black and white work from the mid-20th century; in particular the series Rail Magic (1949) and The Eye of Love (1954) as well as for his commissioned and free experimental work in colour.
“René Groebli has always been an artist on the move. Movement is second nature to him, which explains why the development of his art does not follow a linear path and his works cannot be read as single iconic pictures. Groebli feels and works lyrically. He apprehends the medium of photography as a centrifugal force moving out from the centre – a centre that is dynamic, the primal form of creativity.”
Daniele Muscionico
The works presented at Artsalon Zurich are all published in The Magic Eye, a book produced by Edition Bildhalle in close collaboration with the artist that gives an overview over Groebli's oevre spanning more than half a century, which cannot be defined by a single style or genre.
