The photographs of Chantal Elisabeth Ariëns bring together the strength of our inner self with our graceful, fragile, physical exterior. The tactility of couture, voile, feathers, inhabited by elegant women, shed light on our emotional life. With her visual stories, Ariëns is able to depict movement and serenity in the same moment.
The artist works with the photopolymer etching technique, which involves transferring an image onto a solar plate to create a new negative for traditional printing, allowing her to engage in a handcrafted process characterized by rich textures, deep black tones, and a velvety, dreamlike atmosphere that reflects the care and dedication it requires.
