While working on Florilegium, Kwaaitaal began collecting glass vessels; initially to give the flowers a place, and later out of fascination with Dutch glass, such as belly bottles, shoulder bottles, and medicine bottles. After years of collecting, her assemblage has grown into a heterogeneous mix of objects: antique, vintage, contemporary, handmade, and industrially produced. While for the Sole series, Kwaaitaal worked with antique and vintage vases, the vessels in the Fluorescent Series are more mixed and selected through a more intuitive and associative approach. By emphasizing form, colour, and transparency regardless of origin or function – compositions emerge in which unexpected relationships become visible; the objects shed their original meaning and gain a new visual autonomy.
