ART MIAMI 2026: Miami

One Herald Plaza, Miami 1 - 6 December 2026
Overview
One Herald Plaza, Miami

For its third participation at Art Miami, Bildhalle presents a solo booth dedicated to Casper Faassen, featuring new and previously unseen works, including works created specifically for the occasion.

Looking at Casper Faassen's work is like looking through the mist of time.

Casper Faassen is a Dutch artist whose practice merges photography and painting. He transforms photographs into layered works characterised by translucent surfaces and his signature craquelure, creating a distinctive visual language inspired by the attention to light and atmosphere of the Dutch Masters.

A recurring theme in Faassen's work is that which remains hidden. His compositions use absence, obscurity and negative space as active elements of the image, giving what remains unseen as much significance as what is revealed. Through carefully constructed compositions and layered surfaces, Faassen creates images that seem to hold their subjects just beyond reach.

The presentation focuses on Faassen's longstanding Movement series. Exploring stillness and motion through collaborations with dancers, the series captures the human figure between presence and disappearance.

The presentation also includes new works from ReCollection, a continually evolving artistic pursuit in which Faassen turns to cultural artefacts with layered - and often contested - histories, tracing dispersed cultural belongings and addressing questions of memory, ownership and cultural responsibility.
