MUCAC LA CORACHA, MÁLAGA: MONA KUHN - Y TU DESNUDO SERÁ UN GRAN POEMA: MÁLAGA

6 September - 2 November 2025

The MUCAC la Coracha (Museo y Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga / Musem and Center of Contemporary Art, Málaga) is hosting the first monographic exhibition in Spain by Brazilian-American artist Mona Kuhn,  The exhibition was in the presence of the artist herself on the 6th of September and can still be visited until 2 November.

The exhibition brings together 43 works from different series created by the photographer between 2004 and 2018, offering a non-chronological visual journey that highlights the poetry of the body and its relationship with nature.

As for the series on display in the exhibition, in Evidence (2000–2008) the photographer builds an intimate archive of the French naturist community with which she established a lasting bond, while in Native (2009) she combines urban scenes from São Paulo with the exuberance of the Amazon rainforest, revealing tensions and harmonies between the natural and the urban. In Bordeaux (2011), she portrays a diverse group of French collaborators of Maghrebi origin exploring identity in a globalised world. In Private (2012-2013), she refines her language towards a subtle use of light that dissolves the boundaries between body and natural space. The series She Disappeared into Complete Silence (2014-2019), created in Robert Stone's Acido Dorado architectural construction in Joshua Tree, introduces a reflection on human permanence in the face of the transience of architecture. Finally, in Bushes & Succulents (2018), the artist turns the texture of succulent plants into a metaphor for skin and body movement.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue with texts by Rebecca Morse, photography curator at LACMA in Los Angeles, and the exhibition curator.
