MONA KUHN

WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH | MONA KUHN: FROM ORIGIN TO INSTITUTIONS
Joslin Van Arsdale, Musée Magazine, March 11, 2026

Born in Brazil and based in the United States since the early 1990s, Mona Kuhn has developed a photographic practice that moves fluidly between intimacy and structure, sensuality and architecture, memory and materiality. Over three decades, her work has been shaped by long term collaborations with models, galleries and publishers, most notably Steidl, as well as exhibitions across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

In 2025, Kuhn’s practice has received significant institutional recognition, with in-depth acquisitions by major museums including LACMA and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and Photo Elysée in Switzerland. Following her solo museum exhibitions at Lianzhou Museum of Photography in China and at the Museo Centro de Arte Contemporáneo in Málaga Spain, Kuhn reflects on the arc of her career and the evolving dimensions of her work.
