Katalog Nr. 5 was the gallery's 1987 catalog, and Katalog Nr. 6 was the companion catalog from 1990, commemorating the 100th birthday of Strand. Images are interspersed with interviews of Strand and texts by Naomi and Walter Rosenblum, Milton Brown, John Szarkowski, Richard Benson, Michael Hoffman, Nancy Newhall, Elizabeth McCausland, John Walker, Claude Roy and many others.
Paul Strand (1890–1976) used the medium of photography like an artist – aesthetically, technically, thematically – and always with a keen eye for the state of the world. Alfred Stieglitz was the first to recognise this in 1916. And so he dedicated the last two issues of his art magazine Camera Work to Strand, who at that time had just successfully completed the epochal transition from ‘pictorialism’ to ‘straight photography. Strand's work achieved international recognition in 1945 at the latest with a retrospective solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
The Galerie zur Stockeregg in Zurich, located at Stockerstrasse 33, was a leadinginternational gallery for photography for over 25 years, focusing on 20th-century vintage prints and contemporary photography. It participated in numerous art fairs, including Art Basel and AIPAD New York, and exhibited artists such as Henri Cartier-Bresson.
