"In late autumn, a swallowtail flew over the roofs of Manhattan's Orchard Street. Flying up five stories high, weaving through the air above the roofs and along the sunlit façades, barely flapping its wings to gain height again before vanishing southwards. Long did the memory linger of its pointed wings and beautiful markings, all yellow and black. A late messenger from another world, from Mr. De Lancey's orchard that disappeared over 200 years ago. What a long time, measured against the life of a butterfly."
