Sandro Diener CH, b. 1975

Sandro Diener's landscape photographs do not attempt to explain specific geographical locations, but to convey moods - by means of an aesthetic of simplicity that is anything but banal. Whether in the Alps, Eastern Europe or Iceland, Sandro Diener waits for the moment when earth, light, and the weather create a mystical, almost surreal scene. Familiar and unfamiliar terrain is transformed into a timeless and placeless topography in which grass, rocks, water, and clouds become a surface on which to project our own feelings. While the elements merge into harmonious compositions, the viewer's gaze is simultaneously directed outward and inward.
