More than a silent observer, more than someone who simply captures moments, Nanda Hagenaars is a creator of worlds. With a camera in hand, she connects to her subjects and unravels what lies at their core. Then she lays it bare for all to see. In a striking confluence of form and line, the interplay between light and shadow becomes apparent.
Nanda is cerebral and process-driven. She is dedicated to fostering her own creativity, systematically carving out time and space to grow, learn, and evolve as an artist. But she also harnesses raw emotion in a way that feels novel. She is interested in the body and captivated by the soul. Is the body just a body? What story can be told in the curve of a spine? What is the unspoken dialogue between two models? Through her lens, the two are often taken out of context, transformed, refined, and presented anew for the viewer’s experience.
Born and raised in the Netherlands, with a stint in Seville, she has a global, broad-minded approach to life—and to her work. Through her captivating photographs, she hopes to inspire those around her and ignite a spark of creativity. She has also channelled this desire to move and motivate others into a beautiful e-book.
Poetic portraits and surrealist imagery define her oeuvre; she builds colorful narratives in black and white. Nanda’s work embodies the transportive, transformative power of art.
