The Pond series began as a reaction to the growing division and indifference that Jeppesen witnessed around him. At the center of the series The Pond is the hand – the ultimate symbol of creation. Across history, the hand, humankind’s oldest tool, has held a central role in art and culture as a universal sign of presence, touch, and agency. It is the hand that creates and the hand that destroys, that preserves and erases. In Jeppesen’s work, it becomes at once personal and collective, fragile and enduring, embodying the dualities of human existence. Rendered as cyanotypes on linen, these images are embedded into the fibers themselves, reinforcing his interest in materiality and in surrendering control to time, chance, and natural forces.
