"Spontaneity is the cornerstone of my work. I like to go into a shoot without a plan. Seeing what happens, letting the interaction between photographer and subject run free. I think that by spontaneity the best ideas arise. An encounter, with the aim of taking pictures, should not be stuck to preconceived plans. It all has to arise in the moment."

Bastiaan Woudt

Bastiaan Woudt (*1987) is a sought-after photographer that started 11 years ago without formal training. From emotive portraits to mystic landscape photography, he is known to capture monochrome minimalism at its finest. He began his journey into photography both by diving into photography books and experimenting with modern techniques. He learnt from the masters such as Irving Penn and Richard Avedon while exploring his own artistic instinct. Soon enough, he was winning international awards and saw his work hung up in high-end galleries.

Woudt was nominated in 2014 for the SO Awards and was named New Dutch Photography Talent in 2015. In 2016, the British Journal of Photography included him in their 'Ones to Watch' issue, and he received the Van Vlissingen Art Foundation Prize. Woudt's work has been exhibited widely at international fairs and museums such as Paris Photo, AIPAD New York, Photo London, Photo Shanghai, Art Miami, Museum Kranenburgh and Fotografiska. Alongside his own work, Woudt has done commissioned work for magazines such as British Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, New York Magazine, Numéro Paris and l'Officiel.
