"Fueled by curiosity, my work is about challenging our perception of the world and the invisible forces that rule our existence within it."
Douglas Mandry
The work of visual artist Douglas Mandry includes photography, print making, painting and sculpture. He works across different media, and the foundation of his art lies in a deep engagement with scientific topics and thorough research. Often, he closely collaborates with researchers and institutions from fields such as archaeology, technology, history, and the natural sciences. His work is to be understood as a reflection on our relationship with nature, and addresses larger questions about the passage of time, memory, and transience versus preservation.
Mandry earned a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication from the University of Art and Design (ECAL) in Lausanne. Since graduating, Mandry has been nominated for numerous awards including the Paul Huf Award and the Swiss Federal Design Awards. In 2020, Mandry won the «Foam Talent Award». The series «Monuments» and «Unseen Sights» were shown in a museum context in 2020 and 2021 in various group exhibitions, including the Kunstmuseum Wien, the Foam Museum Amsterdam and the National Museum Luxembourg. Mandry's works have also been presented at various international fairs such as Paris Photo, Photo London, Photo Basel and Art Rotterdam.
